Historical Highlights
1929
Alfred L. Donaldson, author of the two-volume
History of the Adirondacks, bequeaths his collection of Adirondackana to
the Saranac Lake Free Library.
1924
George Marshall indexes the Donaldson letters and
manuscripts, which include source materials for the History of the
Adirondacks.
1948
Adirondackana of Kenneth Goldthwaite presented to the
library.
1951
William Munson Collection purchased through the
effors of William C. White
1952
A fund, established in memory of William Morris,
founder of the William Morris Theatrical Agency, provides for care and
additions to the collection.
1957
Dr. Lawrason Brown's Robert Louis Stevenson
Collection purchased for the library by friends of William Morris.
1968
Contributions in memory of William C. White, author
of Adirondack Country, provide a new room for the collection.
Dorothy Plum, compiler of the Adirondack Bibliography, catalogues a
major part of the collection.
1983
A Federal Emergency Jobs Act grant, combined with
local matching donations, extends the Adirondack Room to double its size
and provides a separate workroom.
1987
Contributions in memory of D. Mott Chapin provide the
nucleus for a new Adirondack Room Fund.
1989
Trudeau Institute Trustees approve donation to the
library of extensive Trudeau Sanatorium archives.
1993
George Marshall presents his Adirondack Collection to
the library
