Winter Book Sale

Coordinator Gloria Drucker reports that the 23rd annual Winter Book Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10 and 11, in the Community Room, as part of the Winter Carnival festivities.

Thousands of hardcover and paperback books will be for sale at bargain-basement prices, along with a large selection of special books individually priced. Many audio-cassettes, videocassettes, DVDs and jigsaw puzzles will also be for sale. Those attending are asked to use the back entrance.

Around 40 volunteers will assist with setting up, sorting and selling. Presorting was completed by Gloria Drucker and Merle Smith.

Children may color a Carnival alien-theme picture in the Children’s Room to be hung as a decoration at the sale.

Book sale donations

All donations must come in by Thursday, Feb. 2, to give the committee time to organize the books and other materials. The library does not accept textbooks, Reader’s Digest condensed books, National Geographic hardcovers, Time/Life Series, outdated medical, encyclopedias, paperback romances, records, home-recorded videos, or magazines. Books should be in good saleable condition.

Library Luncheon Programs

Caper Tissot, Library Luncheon Series coordinator, reports that at noon on Thursday, Jan. 19, Keith Wells will talk about “Exploring the Wilderness Above--The Adirondack Public Observatory.”

On Feb. 2, Judith Coopy will present “The Culture of Education in China : Its Dominance on the Life and Future of Children Born Under the One-child Policy.” Bring your lunch to the Community Room and enjoy a dessert and beverage provided by the library’s Hospitality Committee.

Thursday Morning Story Hour

The 10:30 a.m. Thursday Story Hour program will continue in the Elinor B. Preis Children’s Room with a variety of readers presenting stories each week. Thank you to Merle Smith, Helen Sprague and Shannon Stratton for presenting the Holiday Party.

Tuesday Evening & Saturday Story Hour

Tuesday evening Story Hour, offered once a month, will take place on Jan 17 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Children’s Room.

The next Saturday morning story hour program will be on Feb. 4 at 10:30 a.m.

The programs are jointly sponsored by the library and the North Country Childcare Network. Terrie Perkins and Barbe Skiff present the stories, poems and songs.

“Passion on the Mountain,” by Joseph Beauchemin, was recently added to the collection. Mr. Beauchemin’s fourth book is a romance novel set in Saranac Lake and dedicated to his Saranac Lake High School class of 1952 and all his friends and family who still live in the area.
